This special event honors James Lockard’s legacy while bringing our community together to raise funds for The Battle Within and the important work they do. We’re honored to be part of this meaningful tradition and grateful to everyone who continues to support this incredible cause.
Honoring the Legacy of James Lockard
James Lockard exemplified service and sacrifice. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from June 1998 to May 2004 before continuing his commitment to public service by joining the Independence Police Department in 2008. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, James tragically lost his life following an unexpected hunting accident in November 2013.
To ensure his legacy lives on, the Independence Police Department established this annual memorial tournament. For 12 years, friends, family, fellow officers, and community partners have gathered on the green to celebrate his memory and support causes close to his heart.
Supporting The Battle Within
Our first responders and service members face high-stress, traumatic situations in the line of duty—experiences that can take a heavy emotional and mental toll over a lifetime.
All proceeds from the tournament go directly to The Battle Within, an organization dedicated to providing community, resources, and life-changing mental health support to first responders and veterans healing from post-traumatic stress. By participating and sponsoring, we help ensure our local heroes receive the care, connection, and restorative tools they deserve.

- Registration: 7:45 AM
- Shotgun Start: 9:00 AM
- Entry Fees: $120 per player / $480 per 4-person team
