Ice. Snow. Sleet. Drivers beware.

“SLOW. DOWN. ‪#kctraffic‪” was the tweet from the Missouri Department of Transportation.  during the first winter storm of the season.\

Closed highways, slippery roads, and weather-related accidents are already impacting the KC community. The Kansas City Police reported that they responded to 77 accidents that involved an injured individual (in a 4-hour span) during the first winter storm of the season.

The Kansas City Star also shared the following numbers reported by from local law enforcement:

  • Lenexa Police - Responded to 20 crashes
  • Kansas City Highway Patrol -  Responded to 38 Crashes and assisted 12 motorists
  • Overland Park Police - Responded to 36 Crashes
  • Missouri Highway Patrol - Responded to 141 Crashes and assisted 36

If you are involved in an accident due to snow, ice, or slippery roads, follow the same process that you would have had it occurred during a sunny day in June. Exchange contact and insurance information, gather evidence and take pictures, call local law enforcement, and don’t delay seeking medical attention if you think it might be necessary.
